Why doors come off track here, and what putting one back really involves
Santa Ana winds drive grit into the tracks and roller bearings. The rollers stop rolling and start skidding. A skidding stem climbs the curve and hops out. The same winds push on wide two- and three-car doors, twisting the top section. Add vibration from daily use and header lag bolts back out. Track hangers drop out of plumb, the vertical track leans, and the door walks sideways until it derails.
The first thing we do is take tension off the assumption that it's just a roller. Vise grips go on the track below the door. Then we look at the cable drums. Did one cable unspool? Did a set screw slip? Are the drums still timed to each other? A single loose cable drops one side and jams the opposite roller. Bottom brackets stay under spring tension the whole time and are not touched by hand.

Those pivot on side hardware, not sectional track, and the failure is usually a rotted bottom rail from sprinkler overspray.
